What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is not about the hypnotist controlling the subject as we commonly see it on stage. That is a false sense of hypnosis. The fact that the subject does what the hypnotist tells him or her to do (for instance - bark like a dog or your hand is so frail that now you can't lift up a pencil) is because the subject willingly wanted to co-operate with the hypnotist. Put it simply, the subject is in a clear mind and knows exactly what he or she is doing. He or she is reacting positively to the hypnotist's instruction, just like when we are in a conscious or wakeful state. Imagine if you went on stage and the compere asks you to do certain things to entertain the audience, for instance to laugh heartily in front of the audience. Would you do it? Chances are you will - because you have to react positively in front of large crowd just to look good and complying. Deep in your mind you hate rejection. You are conditioned to go with the flow unless the compere is asking for some action from you that is beyond your tolerance level or what you think should do.
